Teanocchio: A Puppet Show in Your Teacup

Revolutionizing Tea Time with a Nostalgic Twist

The inspiration behind Teanocchio was to change the way we prepare our drink and make tea time more pleasurable. The designers wanted to add some fun and nostalgia about old games while preparing tea, creating a user experience that makes the user feel as if they are bringing a character to life while drinking.

What sets Teanocchio apart is its unique puppet shape. Made of stainless steel and covered by chrome plating, this tea infuser adds a fun factor to the tea infusion process and adds a delightful puppet show to the tea ritual, especially for green tea that requires more time for infusion. The wires for movement, hands, and neck are made of galvanized steel rope, and the bottom plug and hat are made of silicon.

The interaction with Teanocchio begins when it is infused in a tea cup, resembling a puppet show on your coffee table. A small groove at the bottom of the infuser head allows the spherical head to be filled with water flow to prevent overflow of tea from the cup edge. The hat is removable, allowing the user to wash inside the head easily.

The project started in November 2016 in Tehran and was completed in February 2017. After forming the idea, the designers searched for the perfect character to suit their tea infuser. Characters from children's stories were nominated to create a sense of nostalgia in adults and to persuade them to be part of the story while drinking. The main challenge was defining a way for the spherical head to be filled with hot water to prevent overflow of tea from the cup, as well as ensuring ease of washing inside the head.

Teanocchio is a tea infuser inspired by puppetry, made of stainless steel and covered by chrome plating. It aims to change tea preparation and make tea time events more delightful. Adding some fun and a sense of nostalgia about old plays while preparing tea, it creates an interesting user experience and makes the user feel as if they are bringing a character to life while drinking. This innovative design was awarded Silver in the A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award in 2017.
